From I81, take the New Market exit. Follow 211 East through New Market until you climb the mountain. Turn left onto East Lee Hwy across from the Visitor's Center. Follow this road approximately 8 1/2 miles, passing Storybook trail on the right, small signs for Scothorn Trail, and Gap Creek Trail along the way. Lion's Tail Trail is on the left side. Park in parking lot and enter the trail where story of the lion begins. Follow the trail until you see the reach the first bridge. Before you step unto the bridge, take 9-10 paces off the trail to the right. You should see a rather large tree stump that is the home of The Lion's Tail Trail Seedling. If is has been rainy, you might have to cross a very small (2-3 feet wide) brook that feeds the bridge's creek.

Lion's Tail Trail is has some components that are handicap accessible including the restrooms, signs with braille, and general story that appeals to all senses. A rather, unique trail.
