Troll Bridge I

Materials Needed:
Ink pad
Log Book (Yours)

Level of Box: Extreme due to steep mountain and narrow paths. Young children could do it, if they pay attention. If not, they may end up in the Spokane River taking a little swim.

Rapp, Rapp, Rapp! Rapp, Rapp, Rapp! “Tow Troll, Tow Troll! Are you in there? Get up. Spring is here!”

There comes a faint grumbling from within the Troll House….a scuffle, and a ruckus…

Growling, “Who’s out there? Me sleep! Go away!”

“It’s me you dolt. Your Keeper. Now get up!”

Tow Troll slowly emerges from her house in Finch Arboretum. She is covered in slim and gruff…pine needles fall from her hide. She half hazardly brushes off bits and pieces of ….things.

“What is that?” gasps Troll Keeper pointing to the remnants of a carcass.

Tow Troll takes a casual look at some remains dangling from her arm…. And growls, “Squirrel.”

“Listen,” says the Troll Keeper, “you said last year that you wanted to find another bridge so let’s go. I hear there are some over in Brown’s Addition…over in High Bridge Park.”

“Ugh!” grumps the Tow Troll… “You go. Me stay. Sleep. Eat squirrel. Pick teeth.”

“Listen Troll,” says the Keeper, “I am your Keeper and you will go where I say. Besides, I cannot find a proper bridge for you, if you don’t come along. Now, get up and lets go!”

Grumbling, stumbling, and otherwise being unpleasant, Tow Troll follows her keeper in search of the proper bridge, heading towards historic Brown’s Addition… to the corner of Coeur D’ Alene S 300 and 3rd Ave W- 2400.

Looking across the street, to the West, Troll Keeper sees two large carved basalt pillars. Approaching them, she pauses…spying the Spokane River in front of her. The view is spectacular. Tow Troll, not much interested in the view, is looking for squirrels, mice and various other things to eat. She spies a grub and slurps it down!

“Belch…” The Keeper approaches the opening of the pillars. Looking down the trail, she turns to the Tow Troll and says, “The path is steep. You walk behind me. Step where I step and be careful.” Grunting, the Tow Troll follows, not really paying much attention, more interested in finding grubs, squirrels, and bites of anything else which may be editable.

The Troll Keeper and the Tow Troll head down the path being careful to keep the Spokane River on their right. They see three bridges directly in front of them. Continuing down the path they come across some steps on the right, glancing at them Troll Keeper decides to continue on forward, going down the path. The pair comes to the first switch back and continues on down the path towards the Spokane River. From this vantage point, if you are familiar, you will see the “Praying Tree” from “Tristan’s Baby Turtle” box.

At the foot of the steps or the end of the switchback, Troll Keeper and Tow Troll continue down the trail, keeping the Spokane River on their right.

“This trail is steep,” says the Troll Keeper. “Be careful.”

“What that?” grunts Tow Troll, pointing to a rock on the side of the trail. Stepping over, Troll Keeper takes a look… “Down!” she gasps… “Get down now!” Tow Troll ambles down… “What rock say?” asks the troll… “Ash,” states The Keeper. “Muggles marked it. Keep your eyes open.”

“Ugh,” grumps Tow Troll…. “Muggles stupid.”

The pair continues down the path going around another corner. The Spokane River is now on their left. Coming to the end of the turn, the path begins to flatten out. Facing the river, Troll Keeper spies a gently used game trail off to the left. “This way” points Troll Keeper. “Head toward the bridges.”

“Careful, here, Troll. Treachery is afoot. This trail is steep, the ground slippery,” says Troll Keeper pointing out the narrowing game trail.

Proceeding with caution, Tow Troll and Troll Keeper head down the game trail towards the bridges. Before long, they come across a fallen tree on the left and the ruins of an old smoke stack on the right, the bricks being weathered and crumbling. Still, they continue forward, always towards the bridges.

“Look,” says Troll Keeper, pointing out a manhole cover to the sewer. “Another Muggle trap.”

“Ugh,” grunts Tow Troll. “Up there,” pointing off to the left, Tow Troll sees a fallen cement pillar.

“We'll pant the treasure at the base,” says Troll Keeper.

Looking around Tow Troll growls, “Too sunny. Too hot. Too many muggles. Bad place for Tow Troll.”

“You are right, Troll. We must find another.”

As with all Tow Troll and Troll Keeper boxes…first to find gets a gold coin! Happy hunting!

Yours on the trail,

Troll Keeper
