Phantom Fury
Fallujah, Iraq
November 15th, 2004

Operation Phantom Fury was an operation that would call on the Marines to clear the building of Fallujah one by one. In one effort to clear a house Lance Corp. Travis Desiato charged through a door and was instantly killed by a hail of bullets fired by the insurgents inside. Fearing a repeat of the battle of Mogadishu when a Somali mob dragged the naked, mutilated bodies of dead American soldiers through the streets, Corporal Timothy Connors was determined to retrieve the Marine's body.

Conners prepared a grenade and looking around a corner to throw the grenade, Connors saw a man with a full beard and bushy black hair, his arm cocked back to also throw a grenade. The two grenades crossed paths. Connors , and Lcpl. Matthew Brown, who was with him, were stunned when the grenade exploded near them. They were then driven back by heavy small arms fire.

Conners then led Corporals Lovato, Aragon, Danaghy and Longnecker in a second assault of the house. When they re-entered the house they initially they could not find Desiato. His body had been pulled into the back of the house as a lure for the Marines.

Clues:

From the trail intersection marker beneath the high power wires continue south on the trail. (if you quickly arrive at a small bridge you've gone the wrong way) You’ll soon arrive at a bench on the right side of the trail. From the bench head on a bearing of 230° to a pair of large logs that are crossing one another.
