Distance & Time: 5.1 miles; 2.5 - 3 hours if finding all 3 Everest boxes on the loop.

Terrain: Dirt trail through mostly wooded area with some typical moraine inclines & declines.

Starting Point: Picnic area on K.M. Drive, about midway between Hwy 67 and Hwy T.

We created 3 Everest-themed boxes for the Dead of Winter II event in Rockford, IL on 15-JAN-11. The boxes were only temporary plants at the event, so we have now found a permanent home for them. You can look for 1, 2, or all 3 boxes on the trail loop that is the color of Wisconsin’s state flower.

We highly recommend that you first find the Ed Viesturs and Crevasse! boxes, then continue on for this one.

============================================
However if you are just looking for this one, use this info to start:

From the small parking lot, head towards the pit toilets. You’ll soon see two trails to the southwest – although Everest is certainly icy, your journey today is not on the IAT. Take the multi-hued path instead. Continue following the trail loop that is the color of Wisconsin’s state flower until you pass the “Camp” 3 marker.
============================================

As you walk along, keep an eye out for any large footprints – they could be a sign that the ape-like creature has traveled along the same trail. Although he normally inhabits the Himalayan region of Nepal, he may have been attracted to Wisconsin by our frigid winters. Travel along to “Camp” 4, watching the smaller wildlife flee in fear of the larger creature and perhaps hearing some of their cries of alarm from the nearby marsh. You’ll know you are getting closer when you pass 4.5 and a bench. After a purple marked tree on your right, walk softly as the trail curves, then declines slightly. What was that?!? Creep ahead to the grouping of mossy rocks and logs on your right. If you want to catch a glimpse of this mysterious beast, look behind the largest rock near the trail. Please protect him from greedy bounty hunters by returning him to his lair and checking to be sure he is well covered before you leave him.

You may continue along the same trail to return to the parking lot. A nice hill or two might get you in shape to tackle Mount Everest!

We would appreciate an email to let us know how the box is. Thanks!
