Did you ever meet the mighty Maya Miller? She used her mite for civil rights. In 1971, she led the “March on the Strip” in Las Vegas. They marched to defend the rights of welfare women and children. She worked with Nevada’s Operation Life and started the Nevada Women’s Fund. She pushed hard for pro choice and the Equal Rights Amendment. She fought against the feminization of poverty, was instrumental in national groups: Welfare Rights Organization and National Women’s Right Organization. She was instrumental in preserving Lake Tahoe for the public by promoting Sand Harbor State Park. She ran for the U.S. Senate from Nevada in 1974. She mentored many and brought out the best in all of us.

The Mighty miner, Sutro, stands astride this letterbox in the plaza in front of the Nevada Supreme Court. Behind the pinyon tree, under the big white rock. Front and Center.
