Campbell’s Creek Fallen Soldier
Lance Cpl. Adam J. Crumpler, 19, August 31, 1985 - June 18, 2005 was killed by small-arms fire during Operation Spear, in Iraq.
Crumpler, of Charleston, W.Va., was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune. He joined the unit in July 2004 after signing up for the Marines in December 2003.
Crumpler was remembered as a cutup, a teenager who liked to clown around. He was raised by his grandmother Emma Johnson
after his mother passed away when he was on 13.
Johnson said he called her shortly before he left for his last mission. "He said, 'Grandma, I just wanted to hear your voice and tell you I love you, and I'll call you when I get back." Adam never returned home from his last mission.
U. S. Route 60 in Kanawha County from Campbells Creek Road to Warrior Way would forever honor the memory of Lance Corporal Adam Johnson Crumpler who made the ultimate sacrifice for his country and state.
Adam’s box is hid near the Campbell’s Creek beginning of his highway, from Charleston take I-64 E to Exit 96 Belle, and take U.S.60 East look for the "Adam Johnson Crumpler Memorial Midland Trail - US MARINE CORPS IRAQ" sign of the highway just past it there is a pull off spot. Walk back to the sign stand looking at the sign and then stand with your back to the right post of the sign. Look to the left for big tree that has 3 forks count 5paces (2 steps=1 pace) to right of tree stand at back of tree look down there is a concrete slab you are standing on look for a rock the box is under the concrete and rock. P.S. a gift if u r 1st to find the cure"" it is yours.
