Difficulty: Easy
Distance: 2 miles round trip hike

***** Part of the Other Forts of Texas Series *****

Fort Boggy was a two story blockhouse built by Texas Rangers in 1839 to protect settlers in the area. It was located on the north bank of Boggy Creek, two miles north of present Leona.

Today Fort Boggy State park is one of the newest in the system, and has great facilities for picnicing, hiking, swimming.

Directions:
From Leona exit of I-45, go east, then left on Hwy 75. In about 2 miles turn left on park road to entry, then continue all the way to back of park, parking near Nature Hike trail.

To the Letterbox:
Hike the trial to 1st junction, go left. At next junction go right. Continue to Trail sign #24. Look ahead and just left off the trail and locate large tree surrounded by cedars. Walk to back left side and get to base of the large tree, next to holly bush where it touches base of big tree. Under stuff.
