The Wings Over Cloverdale Letterbox is in the Cloverdale Cemetery. To locate the cemetery find downtown Cloverdale. From Highway 101 any exit will get you there. In the middle of downtown Cloverdale find First Street and turn east. Continue on First Street passing a number of streets, traveling under the freeway and heading for the Russian River. Turn left on Crocker Road and park. If you find yourself on the bridge over the Russian River you have missed Crocker Road and travelled too far.

Walk a short distance up the little road and turn right through the humble pedestrian entrance to the cemetery. Take the main road past the late firm of Rege, Giampaoli, Giampaoli, Parducci and Bandiera. Pass concrete steps to your right and a second set of even more concrete steps again on your right. When the path veers to the right you should, too. Shortly you’ll see a great big Ghiotti on your left with lovely black and white marble flooring. Don’t go there. You want the more straight forward and modest resting place of Zolfo. Playhouse sized. Saunter over to Zolfo and rest your back against the bricks. At 320 degrees two steps away I hope you see the headstone for Elmer D. Woodward. Right behind it I hope the brick is still there. Under the brick and under leaf litter should be Wings Over Cloverdale.

When you’re finished please close everything up carefully and tightly. And after you’ve settled the little box strew a few old leaves over it before replacing the brick. Make it look as though nothing’s been touched since 1987.

Wave farewell to Elmer and be on your way.

Thanks for coming!!
