CAMP ALFRED/BICENTENNIAL BOX This box has one of the official postal cancellation stamps from the Town of Alfred Bicentennial Celebration. It was placed by a group of families who come to the Alfred area each summer, staying at a local home, and enjoying camp-type activities, including letterboxing.
Bring a BIG stamp pad.
Begin at the Alfred Station post office/firehall on Route 244. Set odometer at 0.
Turn right out of the parking lot, and almost immediately turn right again.
At STOP sign (.1 mi./.16 km), proceed straight across State Route 21 to Hamilton Hill Road.
As you approach the blind curve under a very old railroad bridge, notice, on your right, the huge wooden buttress built to stabilize the bridge - scary! (.2 mi/ .3 km).
In any season, notice the beautiful hillsides in autumn color, wintry highlights, spring beauty, or summer splendor. This is a gorgeous part of New York State and well worth visiting for the scenery alone.
Topping the hill, watch on your right for a brown mailbox (.6 mi./1 km).
You have found the beautifully restored Baker’s Bridge Historical Association Meetinghouse, a former Seventh Day Baptist church, 5971 Hamilton Hill Road. Be sure to appreciate, too, the lovely 1880’s red brick farmhouse across the road.
Carefully park along the road near the Meetinghouse.
Beginning at telephone pole # 236, walk 20 paces toward the end of the ramp at the back corner of the building.
Stay on the ground, turn left at the end of the ramp, and walk 12 paces to the corner of the deck which is at the top of the ramp.
Look under rocks under the end of the deck, right near the building.
