Difficulty: Easy
Distance to Letterbox: 100 yards
**** Part of the Emigrants of Texas Series ******
The town of Oldenburg was settled in 1886 by German emigrants, many from Duchys of Oldenburg and Westphalia, Germany. The town never grew to any size, with only 150 residents in 1950, and only 54 by 1990. I sign in town says "Oldenburg - Hammer Fest", thus the name for the letterbox. I could not find a place to hide box in the town, so it is a few miles away at Oak Thicket Park.
Directions:
From Oldenburg, go southwest on Hwy 237 to Hwy 159. Turn left and go about 5 miles to enterance on right for Oak Thicket park. Turn in and park on the right at playground.
To the Letterbox:
Walk back up the road to the Osborn Nature Trail. Take this trail and cross brige, past bird area, cross another bridge and stop at sign on the right for "7a & 7b". From it, go left on faint trail for 9 steps. Go right 2 steps to a large dead tree. Box is at the left base of the tree.
