Showtime
Planted by Bicko and Sniggles (a veteran) on Veteran’s Day 11-11-2010
Bushy Hill Nature Preserve, Ivoryton, CT
This letterbox was carved and planted in celebration of Sniggle’s grandson’s (Bicko’s son) part in Barnum at the Ivoryton Playhouse. Barnum runs from December 9 through December 19, 2010.
*CAUTION: 82-year-old Sniggles found this trail to be difficult due to the head-sized stones and roots all along the walking portion of the trail. The leaves this time of year make it especially slippery.
Park in the tiny parking area off Bushy Hill Road at the entrance to the Nature Preserve. Follow the blue blaze trail straight (there is a blue path that forks to the right, don’t take it!). You will walk on the blue trail for some time, passing a wonderful (huge) old Wolf Tree (other letterboxes are hidden near). The blue trail will bend to the right and the red trail will bear to the left. Continue following the blue-blazed trail.
Not far from the bend you will see a blue-blaze marker on a very tall (Beech?) tree. Look southwest for a jumble of rocks and a three-sister white oak. Walk to the oak and notice the uplift of ledges to the south. Showtime is in a hole in the rear of the first outcrop on the three-sister side.
If you reach a wooden bridge or the autographed blazed tree, you have gone too far.
Continue following the blue trail back to the parking area.
