At the corner of Florence Ave and Lakewood Blvd is the oldest McDonald's still in operation.  It was the fourth store opened by the McDonald's brothers, and was still owned independent of the Ray Kroc franchise empire up until it was forced to close due to damages from the Northridge earthquake in 1994.

After a huge movement by locals and preservationists, the McDonald's Corporation funded renovations and the store reopened two years later, with a new gift shop and museum next to the building.  Here you can see and listen to the entire history of one of the greatest American success stories.  There is also a dedication plaque beneath the huge neon Arch on the corner, topped by original mascot Speedee.
