The "marker with information about rocks" is now just a post about 2 feet tall. Box is otherwise in good shape.

-------------------------------------------------

Take Lake Mead Blvd east 1/2 mile past the Shell/Green Valley Grocers (at the corner of Lake Mead & Los Feliz)
You will see a sign on the right "The Great Unconformity". Pull into the turn-off apron. Find the remaining retaining wall. Look across the wash to the Frenchman Range. Walk 45 yards due South. Follow the trail to the right. You'll find what is left of a marker (with information about rocks, it is damaged). 280 degrees W (10 yards across the wash and slightly down hill)is a mesquite bush. Look under the pink feldspar and the granite rocks for what you seek.

The "Unconformity" refers to the "missing intervals in the geologic record." In this case, it is the missing 1.2 Billion years between the formation of the granite and schist(1.7 Billion years ago) and the formation of the sandstone and limestone (.5 Billion years ago) when this area was covered by a shallow sea.
