We were the best of friends, camping at Timber Trails…a tradition we do every year. We played tag around cabin “1”, through the latrines and back to the red marker post. Looking for something more adventuresome, we headed out south-southwest on a treasure hunt singing, What a Wonderful World:

“I see trees of green…”

We turned onto a trail. We noticed green footprints on trees as we skipped through a patch of ferns. We continued on the path, and then noticed a huge stump on the right. We sat down on it, closed our eyes and listened to the sounds of nature. Back on the trail, one of our girls was feeling blue so we all grabbed hands and headed south. One of us tripped over a stump in the middle of the path, but quickly got up and continued walking. Strolling under arching tree branches, we admired the romantic setting, imagining we were Cinderella with her prince. We snapped back to reality and turned west onto the road. We noticed the shallow waters to our left, and then came upon a three way intersection. As we merrily skipped along we knew which way to go. Heading up the hill and aware of the lake on the left, we broke out into song and all started dancing the Macarena. We noticed a road leading to the left but we continued onward. Coming upon a fork in the road, we saw a shower house in the distance, but took the road less traveled. Heading west we hit the open meadow and continued forward in a south-westerly direction, avoiding the campsite on our right. Crossing the full length of the meadow, we noticed the entrance of the Orange Trail on our right. From there we took 64 paces south-southeast towards a big tree with thorns. We noticed thick vines winding up its base, hugging it as a true friend. Following its arms we discovered the treasure we’d been searching for.
After the excitement of our find, we headed back through the meadow. As we made our way home arm in arm, we realized that the treasure was not in the box we found, but in the true friendship we shared.
