The YellowDog letterbox is located on Noanet Peak in the Noanet Woods that abut the Hale Conservation Area in Dover/Westwood, MA. Trails to the peak are clearly marked from entrances at Caryl Park in Dover or the trail head next to Powisset Farm on Powisset St in Dover.
My big yellow lab Boomer and I love the 30 min hike up to a broad rocky out-cropping with a spectacular view of the Boston skyline. Maybe you’ve seen us on the trails!
Once you’ve reached the peak and taken in the view, it’s time to find the YellowDog box.
1. Turn to face the Boston skyline. If Boston is 12 on the face of a clock, at 10 you’ll see an arbor vitae tree growing out of the rocky edge of the peak. It’s the closest tree to you as you stand on the peak. The left side bottom of the tree is a bit burned out.
2. Follow the stubby rocky path that leads down past the right side of the tree (just a few steps) until you have a good view of the tree’s base.
3. Facing the tree, with your back now to Boston, you’ll see the letterbox peaking out of a rock niche to the right of the tree’s base.
4. Use the disposable camera to record the view or your fellow hikers!
