In 1885 St. John’s Methodist Episcopal Church was built at the corner of Oak and Church Streets in Ukiah. It was constructed of locally milled, first-growth redwood. In 1904 the Saturday Afternoon Club was established by prominent local women wanting to join together and help the community. In 1927 the Saturday Afternoon Club purchased the property at Oak and Church Streets and the building became the Saturday Afternoon Clubhouse. The Clubhouse still stands but the Saturday Afternoon Club could no longer afford to keep the building in sound repair. The Clubhouse was purchased privately, is being slowly restored to its original state and is a popular and friendly venue for local events. The Saturday Afternoon Club itself is still alive and well. I figure plenty of old bats have and will frequent the structure and the newest one is ready to find!

Locate the Saturday Afternoon Clubhouse. Walk to the NW corner of the property and find the venerable old cork oak. Cork comes from the bark of cork oaks and here is a picture of how the bark usually looks:

From the tree walk back away from Oak Street NE twelve steps. Make a ninety degree right turn and walk five further step. Look down to the right and reach behind the concrete structure for the box.

It is really important to rehide this box carefully so it cannot be casually seen. Please after replacing cover with duff or leaves or whatever else you find around you.

Thanks for coming and happy letterboxing!!
