If you seek Amy…

Now we all know that some letterbox clues are long and hard. But not to worry, Amy is fast and easy! See, where other pinups were into nature, or adventure, Amy was into boys. And one of her favorite date spots was in Libertyville, behind the Old School. She like to walk on the wooded path just off of Route 176, near the greenhouses, where exotic flowers grew, opening their delicate petals to reveal their soft, hidden treasures.

Note: To start your search, you may want to park in one of the nearby parking lots, at either Lambs’ Farm or Jamaican Gardens.

One day, Amy took a stroll down the path happy to be going south. When she reached a fork in the path, she turned right, and realized quickly that she was no longer on the straight and narrow. This new path curved and twisted, around the edges of a small lake. To keep her bearings, she decided to go left at each intersection that followed, always keeping close to the lake.

(If you find yourself confused at any point, just follow Amy’s example, and remember that wetter is better…)

Eventually, after passing a beautiful stand of birch trees on her right, Amy rounded a turn to see the southern edge of the lake and, looming just beyond, a rather large hill. She began walking toward the hill, crossing the grass and following the ground as it rose up, then fell again, each time rising higher. Her breath quickened as she reached the peak, then turned to look at the landscape beneath her.

From that point, Amy looked off in a direction that respectable, compass-bearing folk might call 350 degrees. There, she saw a small grove of trees nestled between the hill and the lakeside path. She decided to walk toward those trees, in search of a place to rest.

Now – a few warnings are in order…

First, discretion is a must. The forest and hill receive many visitors, and while Amy would tell you that the risk of getting caught can be a real thrill, you’ll want to exercise caution.

Secondly, there are a couple of ways to enter the grove of trees. If you walk straight from the top of the hill to the nearest trees, you’ll find that the ground drops off steeply and suddenly. And some will be fine with that. But for those who like to come down more gradually, like Amy, you might want to sight the trees from the top of the hill, and came around from the back side.

Whichever way you choose, you’ll find yourself at the trees nearest to the hill. There, between two trees, is a large block of concrete, and it seems that at some point, someone was laying pipe here. And wouldn’t you know it? That’s where you’ll find Amy.

If the box is too deep inside the pipe, just find something long and straight and stick it into the eastern end of the pipe. One or two good pushes should make it come right out.

Please re-hide well, and feel free to send us a note to let us know that all is safe and secure with Amy’s box.

The Great American Pin-up series is, first and foremost, a celebration of the style, femininity, and fun of pin-up art over the years. We hope that you enjoy the images as much as we’ve enjoyed selecting and carving them.
