Find Fugleberg Boat Landing near Fugleberg Park. It is located directly east of the park across South Main and the railroad tracks. This is one of six City of Oshkosh operated boat launches. Find the “Vehicles Without Trailers Only” parking spots on the south side of the parking lot. If those spots are full, head towards the water and park on the curve under the trees. Do not park in a trailer designated spot as the rangers do not like that.
No matter where you park, start in the between the two “Vehicles Without Trailers Only” parking signs. (these have been stuck together lately, so just start next to them I guess) Count the number of light poles in the whole boat landing/parking lot area (A=_______). Standing between the signs, face south and walk 25 steps. As you walk you will see a manhole cover in the grass to the right. Count the number of letters on the top line of the cover (B=________). After 25 steps, face east and walk the number of steps equal to A.
You should see a small opening in the trees to the south. A three trunked tree should be directly behind you, between you and the parking lot. Walk south into the opening and you will see a giant cottonwood tree with several smaller trees growing from its base. You will find the box hidden at the base of the giant tree.
Hike length: 0.1 miles
