The Great (Glass) Pumpkin

Every year around harvest time, the largest glass pumpkin patch in California grows and the few who believe in The Great Pumpkin set out to try and capture its image.

If you believe in the Great Pumpkin (or just want to see what the fuss is all about) go to the Great Glass Pumpkin Patch in Palo Alto. The official “festival runs Oct. 2-3, but the Great Pumpkin can be found between Sept. 30th and November 1st.

As you stop at the pumpkin patch to collect and admire goodies, pass the glass blowing demonstration and make your way to the additional parking lot behind the Art Center. Find the parking lot light post marked “15” and wander to the dirt path at the break in the bushes along the parking lot edge, leading you into the one of the many common garden areas. Immediately to the right you will find 3 great trees all growing from one place. Stuck in the fork of tree 68 on the Embarcadero side you’ll find The Great Pumpkin.
