Box now retired. Could not find it when checking in August 2012; just a couple of ZipLoc bags remained.

This letterbox was originally carved and planted in 2003 by our nephews, TurtleGuy and HockeyJock, when they were 11 and 12 years old. We have adopted it to keep the clue page active. --TJ_Mich

Shakey Lakes Park is a county park west of Stephenson, Michigan, with a large campground, beach, several lakes, boat launches, and good fishing.

Stephenson, Michigan is about 20 miles North of Menominee, Michigan on U.S. Hwy 41. From Hwy 41 in Stephenson, go west on G-12 road. In about 4-1/2 miles, you'll pass the "Camp Shakey Saloon." Keep going west on G-12, or take a quick lunch break at Camp Shakey first. After another 6 miles, turn right at the Shakey Lakes Park sign. Go north 2/10 of a mile, and veer to the right at the next Shakey Lakes Park sign. Stop at the stop sign at the gate house. (There is a $3.00 daily admission fee.)

From the gate house, make a hard right turn onto the dirt road along Bass Lake. Follow the dirt road along Bass Lake past the boat launch and through the campground. (Campsites are labeled and on the left side of the road.) Go past campsite "11-B," and park in the clearing just after this site. From here, you will have to continue on foot.

The dirt road continues to the right along the lake. Walk from here, past the "authorized vehicles only" sign. Follow the trail until the road forks. Take the right fork, closest to the water. On the right side of the trail, there is an orange diamond-shaped arrow marker on a tree.

From this marker, walk 90-95 paces to the next orange marker.

Keep following the lake trail around a bend, about 130 more paces, to the next orange marker. (This one is on an oak tree on the left side of the trail.)

Continue about 110 paces more. There is another dirt road crossing perpendicular to the one you are on. Take the right turn, again following the lake. About 20 paces, on your left, is yet another orange marker.

From this marker, walk about 30 paces, until you see a path turning off to the left going up an incline.

Walk up the incline, about 30 paces. To the right of the path, about 6 feet into the grass, is an old rotted stump. Move a chunk of wood aside to find the Rainbow Canoe letterbox hidden underneath!
