It’s called Three Creeks Lake, but there are so many sweet little creeks flowing into each other and then into the lake – it’s so beautiful! There are three lakes too – Three Creeks Lake, Little Three Creeks Lake, and a smaller lake between the two apparently without a name for itself. You can take a 2-mile round-trip hike from the big lake all the way around the little lake and back again through unusual trees, boulders, and downed logs in many really weird shapes and sizes. I will definitely do that hike again when the weather is nicer. Is there a letterbox at Little Three Creeks Lake? I’m not sure – find out for yourself! We loved the Three Creeks Lake campground and had a great time camping in the rain the weekend I placed this box. It reminded me of when we lived west of the Cascades – complete with downpour, lightning, thunder, drizzle, mist, and clouds hanging over the mountains nearby. One of the most striking things to see here is the Tam McArthur Rim – it towers over and around one end of the lake. My son did the hike up there (also from lake area but a much longer hike) and said the view was incredible. So hiking, boating, swimming, fishing, playing on the beach – what more could you want for a day trip or a longer vacation? How many creeks? At least three, that’s for sure.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS: Take Elm street south out of Sisters – keep going until the road turns to gravel, and then keep going following signs to Three Creeks Lake.

CLUES: There is a trail going from Driftwood campground at one end of the lake to Three Creeks Lake campground at the other end. You can get this box from either end. Both ends start at wooden sign trail markers at the turn-arounds of the campgrounds. Drive through either campground until you get to the turn-around at the end and park. At Driftwood there are two wooden signs – one trail takes you around the lake (that’s the one you want), and the other takes you to Little Three Creeks Lake. At Three Creeks Lake campground, from where you are parked take the little trail at the SW end of the big log – there are two round wooden posts to mark the trail, and it goes out into the meadow towards the beach. If you don’t see the wooden sign in the woods off to your left, look for a white rectangular sign high up in the trees, a map meant to be read in the winter when there is obviously a ton of snow. The wooden sign for the trail up and around the lake is just a little bit SE of the white rectangle. Make your way over there crossing the little creeks as you go. At the wooden sign you will enter the woods and begin climbing.

FROM EITHER DIRECTION: Don't take any side trails, stay on the trail that leads around the lake to the other campground. Enter the four-cornered portal at the highest point in the trail. Check the bowels of the summit guardian. She once was two and now stands alone.

Please cover with lots of bark and debris when you leave – enjoy the view while you are stamping in!
