Oh if a man tried
To take his time on Earth
And prove before he died
What one man's life could be worth
I wonder what would happen
To this world.

The first performer I ever saw in concert was Harry Chapin. I saw him in Huntington High School. Harry was born on December 7th, 1942 in Brooklyn, NY.

He lived in Huntington for many years and was a dedicated humanitarian who loved his town and Long Island in general. After he died in 1981, he was interred in the notgnitnuH laruR yretemeC on Long Island.

Harry had many great songs; ‘Cats In The Cradle’, ‘W*O*L*D’, ‘Dance Band on the Titanic’, “I Wanna Learn A Love Song’ and ’30,000 Pounds of Bananas’, but his first hit was ‘Taxi.’

To find this little tribute to Harry, you’ll be paying your respects to him first.

Drive into the place where he is resting from either entrance and follow the roadway up to the top. You’ll have to pass between Platt and the Young cross and to the right at the Sands. Park your car by the Conklin globe. Walk past the globe and across the roadway and into the circle. From the Lowndes & the Wolfe-Smiths, you can see the harbor on a clear day as you look North, past the thinker.

Find Marguerite within the circle and from her stone, take a reading of 240 degrees and start walking in that direction. Take notice of the stones around you and think of what Huntington must have been like during their lifetimes. Many of the names in this cemetery are the names of the founding families of the Town and Island, such as Conklin, Gardiner, Jarvis and Woodhull. Stop at Horn and look to the left. Look for the two small sentinels standing watch over Harry. Go over and say hello and take a look at all the items that have been left for him.

From Harry’s resting place, look past the Hall and Pray that my clues will guide you well. Reach the roadway. It’s all downhill from here. Head down the roadway to a resting place where Richard waits for Marilyn. If you turn around, you’ll see that things here ARE what they seem. Look to Richard’s left and walk to the large boulder that sits behind the Shroads. Follow the bushes that look like they were crafted by a cubist. Look on the ground for the granite alphabet blocks as you go along. Keep going until you see Arthur and Renee.

From the Jensens place, walk seven more paces in the same direction that you’ve been walking. Look to the left for the oak tree that is growing out of rocks and splits into sisters. Nestled within the rocks and trunk under a SPOR is what you’ve come looking for.

As always, be stealthy, and take precautions for Poison Ivy. It grows like….ivy around Long Island woods. After stamping in, please seal the baggies and make sure the seal is nice and tight on the box. This is a store bought stamp.
