The Masonite plant was a big employer for 50 years or so in Ukiah as well as a sizable landmark seen from the freeway. But the plant was cited numerous times for various environmental sins so they moved on and tore down the plant about 10 years ago. To find the Ukiah Masonite Letterbox go to the old Masonite site:

There seem to be two Ford Streets. Turn on to Ford St, the Ford St. across from Empire Drive off of North State Street near the shopping center dominated by Raley’s. There’s a Carl’s Jr. on the corner. Driving in the direction of the Atlantic Ocean veer left at the Y and go under the freeway. Park on the right under the wooden pole with lights. This is a couple hundred yards before the closed gates. Follow the metal fence in the general direction of Willits. Pass another tall wooden pole. At the third wooden pole with two cautionary signs on the fence stop. Now walk about 19 steps toward the east and find a yellow pole in the weeds. About a foot to the east of the yellow pole under a rock should be the Ukiah Masonite Letterbox.
