Letterbox Name: BtVS Cemetery Series: I Owe You Pain!
Location: Sturtevant, WI
Distance: Less than 1 mile

NOTE:
We've had it confirmed that Oz is missing. Willow, however, is still safely in place.
--------------------------------------------------------

Back in 2007, our very first letterboxing find was the Buffy Box, created by Dragon. And the choice of that box as our first find was no mistake. Since early in the show’s run, Lock and Shock were hooked, and it didn’t take too long for Barrel to join us. So this series was probably every bit as destined as the Slayer herself.

Each entry in the series is actually a pair of boxes – sometimes in the same cemetery, sometimes in two cemeteries relatively near to one another. And to find the names of the cemeteries that you’ll visit, you need to answer a few questions about Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The answers to these questions form a code but (good news!) the same code works for all 12 boxes. So once you’ve answered them once, you can use the same code for the subsequent entries in the series.

As for the cemeteries themselves, we tried to find unique places. They are typically the cemeteries that you might spend literally years driving right past without noticing, or without even realizing that they’re there. But they all have a bit of character. We hope you enjoy them as much as we did.

The sixth pair of boxes belong to Willow and Oz. The specific clues follow the questions.

1. What is the name of the slayer who was “activated” after Buffy died at the end of Season 1?

___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___
1, 21, 4, 20, 8 , 17

___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___
10, 24, 21, 22, 25, 8, 9, 10

3. What were the creepy evil beings from the critically acclaimed episode “Hush” called?

___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___
23, 21, 4, 10, 2, 21, 3, 21, 4

4. What writer and director created “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”?

___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___
26, 5, 9, 9, 13, 24, 21, 20, 5, 4

5. What does Buffy slay (primarily)?

___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___
12, 17, 3, 6, 25, 8, 21, 9

6. What is the name of Buffy’s sister, who first showed up in Season 5?

All right, so now for the clues:

Box 1 – Willow

Cemetery: 9-15-2-12-17-4-25-17

This cemetery is an amazing piece of history, and has been lovingly cared for. You can see it in the markers that have been placed so that the inscriptions can be read more clearly. You can see it in the way that stones and borders have been repaired, in the wake of an auto accident some years ago, where a truck ran off the road and crashed through the cemetery gates. Aside from the noise of rushing traffic, it’s exactly what a cemetery should be – peaceful.

And with the some rare exceptions (I’m looking at you, Season Six), it seems a perfect place for Willow to reside.

So enter the cemetery, and begin with your back to the gate. Walk to the crypt that stands directly in front of you and, standing in front of the doors, take a bearing of 220 degrees.

You’ll see a carving of a willow (though not the one you seek). Go to it.

From Beatrice’s marker, take a bearing of 140 degrees, and walk to the grave of Helmont Kellogg, who fought in the Revolutionary War. (This cemetery is also the resting place of soldiers from the Civil War, World War I, and World War II.)

Take a new bearing of 270 degrees, and walk 6 steps to visit Reverend Washburn. From there, a bearing of 300 degrees and 29 steps will bring you to the Foster family plot.

Look around you, and walk over to take a look at the Lee family Bible. From there, at 340 degrees, you’ll see some discarded stones on the edge of the cemetery. There, in the base of a gnarled, divided linden tree, you’ll find Willow.

Box 2 – Oz

Cemetery: 9-15-2-12-17-4-25-17

Once you’ve taken care to rehide Willow well, face northeast and walk 10 steps. There, at your feet, you'll see Hunter's grave.

From there, look at the bush on your left. If you were trying to keep something from a (were)wolf, or a bear, how might you place it?

Once you’ve found Oz, close the bag tightly and replace it carefully.
