The original idea of this box came from a flower shop in Galena I used to deliver to, but it turned into something so much more. After I transferred the image and during the carving of the image, I kept thinking of one man. The image is a similar design, shape and size as an image I got on April 9, 2008, the carver of that image was Krait.

I've gotten so many images of stamps carved by Krait in my book, and I know many of you do as well. He's carved stamps for Trail Rider and Pastors Wife, so, if you've been to the Rockford (IL) area, you've probably gotten some of his images. Krait is an outstanding carver, I love to study his work. I'm also honored to have found his only HH!!

On my 9th wedding anniversary, I found one of my favorite images by Krait, "Ode to a Rose". We were having trouble with our compass and called TR for a help line. She asked if we were still at the park and I said yes. She responded with the fact she and Pastors Wife were walking through the park at that very moment. After talking with them some, and finding another box, Trail Rider asked if I wanted to meet Krait!

At that moment, I didn't care if I found another box, I wanted to meet the man behind the images. You see, Krait's never been out boxing, never hid a box, never attended a gathering. He just spent a lot of his time creating these wonderful images for you and me to enjoy, without asking anything in return.

We followed TR to her place of work, where Krait also works, and we walked upstairs. I was honored to shake hands with and chat with Krait for about an hour . . . he showed me some other images he carved, he gave me some carving tips, he let me try on his magnifier. He was a gentlemen and scholar, a man I consider myself most privilege in getting to meet.

I wanted an exchange with him, he did have a sig. stamp, even though he'd never been out boxing. Only it wasn't at work with him, so he gave me his thumb print and TR sent me a copy of his sig. stamp that I printed off and taped into my logbook next to his thumb print.

I anguished with what to call this box. Krait has officially retired from carving stamps (for which I'm deeply saddened) and he's suffering some medical issues (for which I continue to lift him up in my prayers). Not only did I anguish over the title, I'm a little un-easy about the image . . . sorry Krait for carving a bunch of flowers. :-/

I planted this box over a year ago, and when the title "Lasting Impressions" came to mind I KNEW it was time to post the clues. Krait, here's to the lasting impression you made on me on April 11, 2008 & all the lasting impressions we all have of your handy work in our logbooks!!!

CLUES;

St. Michael's Cemetery is on the corner of Hwy 20 & Bouthillier streets in Galena. In the middle of the cemetery are two tall arborvitae's flanking a headstone. As you read the headstone, behind the tree to your right, under needles and leaves is the treasure you seek.
