Welcome to Galien, a quaint rural town where children play baseball in the park behind the American Legion.
Galien, pronounced ga-leen (short a, emphasis on last syllable) was named after a nearby river which was named after a Priest and mapmaker in the 1600's.
George Blakeslee was one of the first settlers to establish a business in the area. In 1853, Mr. Blakeslee bought a mill in Galien and during the next year he built a store. Sadly, there aren't many businesses left on the main drag through town - although there is a Tattoo Parlour! We did see a sign announcing a town meeting to revitalize Galien - we wish them well.

East of town on the South side of US 12 find Galien Township Cemetery. Turn in at the sign. (US12 can be pretty busy with traffic and the lanes in the cemetery are narrow - take care!)
Once in the cemetery, drive straight to the back and turn right. At the brush piles, turn car around. Watch for an even more narrow lane - not quite driveable - on your left, where a small stone for Adam Jones marks your place to park. Walk up the hill. Big Log gravestone on left, 5 Alike on right. Turn left, find George Blakeslee's family plot which has fencing around it. Turn left again, see the CLOSSON monument. Just beyond that see a wildly overgrown gravesite. The friends are hiding between the gravestone and the tree.
Update 8/14/11 - The bush is even more wildly overgrown, you have to crawl under it to find the stone! Replaced missing box today.
