(Sorry, this box is really located near Palmer and not Anchorage, but listing it as Anchorage seems to be the only way to get the website to show it in Southcentral instead of the Interior???)

From Palmer, proceed west on the Palmer-Wasilla Highway and turn left on Loma Prieta Drive to enter the Crevasse Moraine trail system. Take the road to where the pavement ends, and just past where it turns to gravel, park by the long rail in the parking lot at left. Walk through the opening in the rail and into the flat meadow below. To your right are two trails separated by a large woodpile. Take the left trail. At the first fork, take the trail at right. At the T, turn left, and then at the fork, take the high trail at right. At the top of the hill, take the switchback at right and keep climbing. When you get to the picnic table at left, stop a moment - turn around and look back across the valley behind you for a beautiful, unobstructed view of Pioneer Peak.

Turning around again and proceeding along the same path, the trail immediately curves to the left. At your right along the curve is a large fallen tree, with its wide end propped in the saddle of another tree. The box is located in the hollow formed by the intersection of the two trees. It may be easier to reach if you walk around the wide end of the deadfall and approach from the back.

This is about a 15-20 minute walk on trails that are quite hilly, as they wind over and through a series of lateral moraines left by glaciers that formed this valley. The box itself depicts a companion you may have encountered on the trail in summer.
