This box is at the Daniels-Schwarzkopf Conservation Area on Old Johnson Road. You can find information and a map on pages 16 and 17 in the PDF file. Just click on the link below:

The name Saruman means “crafty-man,” from the Old English "searu", denoting a craft, device, or wile. Saruman, in the Lord of the Ring Series, is a wizard of applied science or technology and has little regard for nature. After settling at Orthanc (which means “Cunning Mind), the tower at Isengard, and destroying its gardens, Saruman creates underground furnaces and forges to make a cache of weapons. He also comes up with a breeding program to create Orcs who can travel in the sunlight (regular Orcs can’t bear direct sun). He is breeding an army that can move swiftly, day and night. Saruman joins forces with Sauron, the enemy of freedom in Middle Earth and the Master of the one ring in order to “destroy the world of men”.

From the parking area, follow the wide dirt road uphill past the gate. The trail will bear right eventually - then right again. When you come to a Y, go left and shortly you will see a trail coming in from the left. See the tree with a red blaze that is dripping down the tree in the crack? Take this left, passing a “bottle tree” and when you get to a 'T' intersection - go left, not straight. You are now on your way to the second loop in the conservation area and you will eventually start hiking gradually uphill. When you reach a large boulder on your left, (perhaps it is a pudding rock), stop. There is a 2 sister hemlock and a 2 sister birch enjoying some of the pudding. Look to the base of the birch.

You can continue on and explore the loop, or go back the way you came.
