This is my third letterbox. It is in an incredibly beautiful area, and the letterbox is very easy to find as I got a terrible leg injury and could not hike very far this trip! Have fun and enjoy the scenery!!!
Directions:
In Crested Butte, head up Kebler Pass. (In town it is called White Rock). As soon as you are on the actual pass drive just under 7 miles, past the Lake Irwin turn, and you will come to a fork that separates Kebler Pass from Ohio Creek Pass. Veer to the left onto Ohio Creek Pass and drive 4.2 miles to the Beaver Ponds turn off. You will pass some incredible scenery on this pass! Drive to the parking lot and park and head for the trailhead. Walk only about 20 steps up the trail. There are some logs set in the trail at this point. The logs will end by three aspens together, two growing from the same trunk. This is your destination. Look for the pile of rocks behind the trees and there you will find the letterbox. I wish I could have walked further on the trail, but both my leg injury and the lightning storm prohibited it. This was my last day in Colorado and I was determined to leave my two letterboxes there in Colorado.
If time permits, hike up the rest of the trail to the beaver ponds. It is quite lovely. Then, continue on Kebler Pass another few miles until you come to where you look off to your right and see Castle Mountain! It is a true geologic wonder! BE SURE TO BRING A CAMERA!
Enjoy! Be safe! God bless…..PAWPAW
