This box is hidden at the Byron Museum of History in Byron, IL. Centrally located at the corner of Illinois Routes 2 and 72, the museum is open year-round and includes a variety of exhibits focusing on local and area history.

The Lucius Read House that rests on the museum’s property was built in the early 1840s. The Read family was active in the Abolitionist movement and used their home as a safe haven for runaway slaves being smuggled north through the Underground Railroad.

In 1990, The Museum District was formed in order to preserve this local historic landmark as well as the Byron area’s rich history through exhibits, programs, and artifact preservation.

Locate the birdhouse in front of the museum’s entrance. Inside you will find a treasure map with a series of clues to lead you to the letterbox, hidden within one of the museum’s exhibits.

The letterbox is only available during the museum’s hours of operation.

Hours of Operation:
Tuesday-Friday: 10:00am- 5:00pm
Saturday: 10:00am to 2:00pm

Admission is FREE
