Fort Ross is a fascinating set of restored structures built and colonized by Russians in the early 19th century. For more information:

Fort Ross SHP park grounds are open to the public from one half hour before sunrise to one half hour after sunset.

The Visitor Center and Fort Ross Compound are open to the public from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm every day. For this letterbox you need to visit when the Visitor Center is open.

To find the Fort Ross Chapel letterbox travel to Fort Ross State Historic Park off of Highway 1 on the rugged Sonoma coast. The cost is $9 per vehicle, $7 if you’re long in the tooth. Enter the Visitors’ Center with small museum and retail shop. Pass through that building, walk down the stairs and turn right on the path, the creek on your left. At the fork choose the dirt path on your left. Continue until you reach the picnic area. Spy the tumble down shack to your left. Walk behind to the north side. Find the old piece of machinery among the leaves on the ground. In its NE corner under leaves and plant debris I hope you’ll find the Fort Ross Chapel Letterbox.

Please close up carefully, tucking all plastic inside box. Also, please take unusual care rehiding the letterbox. The park gets a lot of elementary school visitors.
