Our First Plant!
The Peterborough Bike Path was a rail bed and as a result is flat and wide, perfect for biking or hiking. The project of turning it into a bike path was completed in 2005. These directions are to our favorite part of the path: it is paved, flat and smooth. There is even a bench part way along. Hazel and Ben love to explore the woods beside the path as well. And best of all, there is no road to worry about. It is ideal for your children in strollers, on bikes or scooters. An adult riding a bike on this length of the path can expect to take less than 10 minutes in each direction. I plan on spending about an hour when I walk and take my kids on bikes. You will want to warn children who travel ahead of their grown ups to stop at the Stop sign at the end so they don’t travel into Prescott Hill Road. At this point, there is a granite boulder in the middle of the path. You can see the Southfield Condo development on your left. The path continues ahead and is gravel. But we usually turn around at the Stop sign.

Directions to the Bike Path:
Take Summer Street North out of town. Turn right on Hunt Road. Turn left on Tarbell Road. As you are driving you will see where we like to enter the Bike path straight ahead of you. Tarbell takes a sharp right and becomes Nichols Lane. Park here and enter the bike path.

Clue:
On this path we like to hike.
On this path we like to bike.
We never want to hear our tire POP!
We look for a box when we see the STOP!
We look under big rocks around the sign.
We take our books and stamps for now it’s time!

* Peterborough Bike Path runs from Noone Falls (on Route 202), through the town center of Peterborough, past the Recycling center and to the Greenfield town line. Parts of the path are on the sidewalk or on the shoulder of the road and other parts are gravel. This path extends in both directions beyond Peterborough as well and may be fun for adults or older children to explore. There is a parking lot on Summer Street and you can make this your starting point if you are looking for a longer ride. Just be sure to travel North if you are searching for the letterbox. This part of the path is on the side of the road at times. Look out for poison ivy!
