Marian's Windmill LbNA #54989

Welcome to Shattuck Windmill Museum & Park. When you visit us here in northwest Oklahoma you will find 51 vintage windmills and one wind generator on a 4 acre site at the junction of Highways 283 and 15. Because so many settlers in this area could find no trees for lumber, many lived in dugouts for a year or two. So we have reconstructed a half-dugout of local caliche rock with a sod roof which is furnished as it might have been in 1900. Later when the railroad came though and lumber became available, the family may have built a story-and-a-half farmhouse much like the one that has been moved to the Park from 4 miles south of town. A false-fronted mercantile is NOW OPEN for business as a type of the early stores in the small bustling town.

Marian Coffield was my great aunt that was born on the family farm about 55 miles east of Shattuck. Now to the box. Take 25 steps from the southeast leg of the windmill donated by Marian Coffield. The box is in the washtub on the front of "Soddy".
