Walk difficulty: fairly easy – a little bit up on a wide dirt trail
Walking time: about 5 minutes walk one-way
Stamp hand-carved -- it depicts the official Utah state bird
Status: alive and well on August 3, 2015

State Highway 14 between Cedar City and Long Valley Junction is a very scenic byway with several picturesque lakes along it. From Hwy. 14 between mile markers 28 and 29 turn south into the Duck Creek Forest Service Visitor Center and park near the visitor center.

Walk south on the road a short distance to the ATV Trail #5 trailhead (it has a large many log entrance). Walk through the entrance and head east on the wide dirt trail. Continue uphill, and then on an S-curve, to where the trail levels off for a short distance and where you can see the east end of the lake below you. From this point the lake dam is at about 20 degrees (from mag. north). Also at about 20 degrees (from mag. north) is a large Pine Tree on the edge of the trail with a very small Pine Tree on its right side. And, uphill at about 240 degrees (from mag. north) is a tall snag. From this point walk BACK on the trail for about 7 steps. Look up slope at about 180 degrees (from mag. north) to see a large double-trunked Pine Tree. Walk up slope for about 32 steps to that tree. The box is on the back side of the tree under a flat rock covered with some twigs and plant debris.

Please please be sure the contents are double ziplocked when you put them back in the box (i.e. the stamp is in a ziploc, the book is in a ziploc, and the two are in the larger ziploc bag), and put all of it INSIDE the box. Please rehide the box well under the flat rock covered with some twigs and other plant debris so that it can not be seen from any direction.

I will not be able to check on this box very often; so, please let me know if you find it, or if it needs attention or is missing:
