Over the last 35 years, my family and I have shared our lives with seven of God’s most adoring creatures. They all have been either strays or rescued pets: 2 mutt puppies, a shepherd, a dobie, 2 goldie mixes and a lab mix. There’s something special about a choosing a dog who needs a home. In return, they love us unconditionally. They’re our rock in a thunder storm, our half time entertainment, our friends when we’re sick or hurting, our exercise partners. They’re the perfect companions. They listen and don’t give their opinion. They wait patiently for us to come home never asking where we’ve been or why we’re late. They know when to leave and when to come. They’re eager to eat whatever we put down in front of them. They never complain. They never ask for money or to borrow the car. They’re always up for a hike or a ball game, despite the weather. They never tell us that we look fat or old. They’re a bright spot on our darkest days. What they give us, money can’t buy. All they ask is for us to love them back. You'll never regret your decision to give your heart, we never have!

To find my tribute to all the dogs I’ve ever loved: make your way to the center of Jacobus. At the light, turn onto Church St which becomes Hess Farm Rd. Pass under 83 and look for the smiley on the bridge. Pass Lake Rd then pull into the dirt parking lot on the right with the 5 marker. Find the multi-trunked tree near the 5 marker. At the bottom, your little doggie is hiding under the vertical dead branch, covered by some tall grass and ground bark.

For twenty five years, we've brought our kids and our dogs to fish and play here. I hope you bring your best little friends and companions along and stop at this quiet fishing spot. For a relaxing afternoon, continue a little further up the road to the entrance of the Lake Redmond section. Bring a picnic, hike the trails, rent a boat on the lake or head to the playground. Everyone will love you for it!
