Can you solve the mystery of how old this bridge is? If so, you can find this letterbox and collect your stamp.

This letterbox is in Nashua's Mine Falls park. To begin, drive to the Coliseum Avenue parking lot. See the linked map below.

get map

1. Walk across the footbridge over the Nashua river.
2. Follow the paved trail up to the top of a large hill near a power line cut.
3. An unpaved trail, shown in green in the map, crosses the paved path at about a 90 degree angle. Turn right and follow the green path into the woods.
4. After about a thousand feet, you will come to another footbridge over a small creek.
5. Now that you've found the bridge, you must figure out what year it was built. (Hint: look at the old stones on the bridge, one will have the year carved in it).
6. Now that you've found the year do the following. Stand with your back against the last railing post on the left side of the bridge. This will be the upstream side of the bridge, and the side farthest from where you parked.
7. Take the left two digits of the year the bridge was built and walk that many paces straight along the green path. [ For instance, if the bridge was built in 1783 (it wasn't), you would walk 17 paces.]
8. You should be at the trunk of a large white pine tree. There is a small American Hornbeam (Ironwood) tree growing near the base of this pine.
9. Turn approximately 135 degrees clockwise. Straight in front of you, you will see a smaller path branching off from the green trail.
10. Now, take the left two digits of the bridge's year, and add to it, the right two digits. Walk this many paces down the small side path. [For instance, in our previous example of 1783, you would walk 17+83=100 paces.]
11. Once you have walked the requisite number of paces, turn 90 degrees to the left, walk 3 paces and claim your prize.
