As you can see, I haven't kept up with this for a while. Will try to get the boxes placed in the next week or two.

I'm very sorry, all my boxes have been reported missing & I sprained my ankle so I haven't been able to go fix them. Will try to take care of it soon.

5/13/05 Lion & Wardrobe are in place with new logs. Witch has once again flown the coop.

Terrain: hardpack, not flat but doable with a stroller (might need a helper to fetch the last one)
Lake Accotink Park, Springfield, VA
Moderate walk for kids, less than an hour (short version)**
3 microboxes (please use a small stamp)

From Old Keene Mill Rd., take Hanover for quite a ways through a residential neighborhood & then make a left on Highland. Follow the signs to Lake Accotink Park. Park at the Marina & begin near the carousel. You might wish to pick up a park map at the information kiosk.

“They say Aslan has returned”
We’ll begin our tribute to C. S. Lewis by searching for the great lion, Aslan. Follow the path across the bridge and into the woods. Keep to the main path (although it’s perfectly permissible to stop along the way to observe the ducks, herons and other wildlife you might encounter near the lake). Keep going straight, past the “Events” sign. A short while later take a moment to rest and deposit any litter you may have acquired along the way. Was that stump there before? Nevermind. About 100 steps from the metal railings at the small stream you’ll find a white tree, carved with such ancient and mysterious runes as “MM’ and “94” and “Tim + Erika”. At 240º you’ll see a splintered stump. “The Lion” awaits you at the foot of the tree to the right of the stump. (There is a small bench about 30 steps further down the path if you’d like to sit while stamping-in.)

“Some of the trees are working for her”
Now we must vanquish the White Queen who holds Narnia under her spell. Continue along the path, across the bridge. Keep walking until the trail passes quite close to some houses. Don’t talk too loudly. We don’t know whose side the residents are on. At the tree with the red blaze, take 35 steps to a big tree. Look to 200º for a large fallen tree. Though fallen, this tree still works for the witch. Stand facing the fallen trunk as though looking through it, then do an about face and check the bottom of the stump you'll see a few steps away. You should find "The Witch" here.

**Here you have a choice. If you’re up for a nice hike or bike ride, the trail does circle around the lake. It’s 3.85 miles total. If however you are ready to return to the wardrobe, retrace your steps back to the first bridge at the beginning of our adventure. If you decide to take the long way (perhaps in pursuit of the elusive White Stag) just make your way back to the marina & first bridge when you’re done to find the last box.

“They remembered that the thing was called a ‘lamppost’”
Is that a lamppost at the edge of the bridge? No, not really, but it’ll have to do. Stand at the post & look 10º into the woods. Yes, it’s kind of steep, but there appears to already be a trail there. Very carefully make your way to the large double stump with the faint yellow “X” on it. About 4 or 5 steps ahead & to the left of the trail is a smallish pile of debris next to a small tree. You've found your way back to the Wardrobe. Please try to be discreet.
