My husband is an avid runner and we tend to travel out of town quite often so he can compete in races. Since my daughter and I are usually left to wander around town while the race is going on, I thought this would be a great opportunity to plant some letterboxes. I decided to start a running theme and plant a letterbox in each town we travel to for my husband’s races.

On US-31 between Charlevoix and Petoskey, there is a roadside park on the north side of the road. It is between Big Rock Rd (on the north) and Burgess Rd (on the south). The marathon route brought the runners through this park twice. The first time at 6.5 miles and the second time at 19.5 miles. This was the perfect spot for me to park and cheer for my husband when he passed through. While waiting for him, I had just enough time to carve a stamp and find a spot to plant the box. The carving is bits & pieces of the logo used on the race t-shirts.

Clues:
Park at the north end of the parking lot. Walk toward the south end. You can either walk through the parking lot or closer to the water’s edge to enjoy the view. You’ll pass some picnic tables & grills, a water fountain and restrooms. Soon you will get to a wooden deck with twin benches. Behind them is a post-rail fence. From where the fence opens in the middle, straight ahead toward the bay is a cluster of large rocks with a bush in the middle. The box is at the base of that bush, behind the front rocks. There is a medium sized stone on top of the box to help conceal it from anyone who passes by. Please take the box away from the hiding spot to stamp in and cover it with a rock when returning it.

If you notice the book getting full, please email me so I can replace it. Thanks, and happy boxing!
