This is to honor the birthday of my best friend Angel who loves to bike
and hike. When you find these boxes, you will know her favorite color
and her favorite food !
If you would like to join in the fun this takes place in Hamden and
Cheshire Ct. on the Greenway Bike Trail
To begin, travel to Cheshire on rte 10 and turn onto North Brooksvale
Road. Park at the parking lot for the Historical Lock #12 and the
Farmington Canal Greenway Bike Trail There are many interesting points
along this lovely bike trail. To fine the Hot Diggitty Dog Birthday box,
walk , bike , roller blade or jog north on the trail. Cross over North
Brooksvale Road and soon pause at a blue bench on your right. It is
dedicated to Ursula Bundock. From here watch for a small well used foot
path on your left A rock with a plaque honoring Herbert J. Crane Jr.
marks the trail . Walk in and pass through a stone wall and on to the
huge 'nooning 'tree. Two wooden benches call you to sit and admire the
tree. From the southern bench walk to the stone wall and pass through .
Take two steps to the left. The Hot Diggitty Dog letterbox is behind a
rock. Now go back to the trail and re-trace to the first stone wall that
you already passed through. Stop . And look right [south] along the wall
to the large rock . Walk on the eastern side up to the big rock and in a
cave hole under , is the Condiment Letterbox. Yum .
A few steps puts you back on the paved bike trail and enjoy. Right will
take you back to the lock parking and if you continue past the lock, in
about two miles the power line crosses the bike trail at a tiny grass
park with a bench. [this is a hint] This whole trail is a great bike
ride with several more boxes to be found. Along the way.
