Mark the Mule
Mark the Mule, the Newmarket mascot, was very upset because he had misplaced the school’s logo. In an attempt to retrieve his school’s letters, he headed out the main door of the school and down the stairs towards the flag pole. From the flag pole he turned left and headed to the woods. When he reached the edge of the woods he saw an intriguing. Mark continued to follow the path past a bench and a trash barrel. He glanced to his right and saw an interesting bridge over a raging river. Mark crossed the bridge and traveled between two big pine trees on his left, where he rejoined a path leading uphill. Walking straight, Mark found a large rotten tree that had fallen onto the path. He gingerly walked on top of the log to a tree riddled with woodpecker holes. At the base of the old rotted tree he found one of his missing letters.
Mark the Mule backed off of the log and retraced his steps back to the bridge. He found another path on his left that lead up to the Recreation Center. He followed the trail until he got to the back of the dumpsters where he came across a large pine tree with three huge branches. He looked 310 degrees on his compass across the dirt road to the woods where he saw 2 pale trees and 2 dead cousins. He took 10 steps for the pale trees to the wild rose pricker bush which he stepped around. Mark the Mule then took 13 steps to the elm tree with leaves that have saw-like edges. Mark was fascinated by a large pine tree with all of its branches facing the sun! He was very careful about the poison ivy at the edge of the woods. He found a meager path into the woods and at the base of the large pine tree found the second missing letter.
From the pine with branches facing the sun, Mark went through a fancy gazebo off to his left. From this perspective he was able to view the baseball field and playgrounds. Attempting to find his final letter he headed toward the large playground with the large green tube slide and kept walking headed toward the fence in the distance. He could see a slight opening in the fence marked by a sign that reads “279”. At the opening he found a trail leading into the woods. He followed the trail, and as the pine trees closed in behind him he came to a fork in the trail. Mark decided to stay left and continued exploring. He saw bizarre sand mounds and marched right through a sandy valley. Again the trail forked, and again Mark stayed left this time in order to avoid the birches. He passed a ditch on the left and continued straight until he came to an old stone wall. Mark past through an opening in the wall and forged his own trail, keeping the stone wall close to his right. He noticed an overhanging stone by a large pine tree without any visible branches. Beneath it he found the final missing letter.
Then he retraced his steps and went home with all of missing letters back on his saddle.
