St. Theresa is visiting the beach of St. Augustine, Florida

She is watching the sunrises from the Ocean Hammock Park Walkway.

You can approach her station from the beach or by walking the Walkway from A1A Beach Blvd, St. Augustine Beach.

To approach from the beach the quickest way is to walk from the Ocean Trace entrance ramp, walk north for approximately 6 tenths of a mile and you will see the wooden walkway at the North end of the Sea Colony housing development.

You could drive on the beach to the Walkway. The summer rules for driving on St. Augustine Beach require that you drive from North to South only. So you can drive from the A Street entrance for just under one mile.

The walking entrance is located between Sea Colony Parkway and Bermuda Run Way. There is no parking area as of the planting date, but there is a place to pull in near the walkway entrance. The Walkway is only open during daylight hours. The hike length is approximately 4 tenths of a mile.

If you walk the walkway all the way and you finally step off the stairway onto the sand, take a sharp left and go to the North edge of the walkway structure.

If you approach the walkway from the beach lean to the right as you approach the dunes and go the North edge of the walkway structure.

You will find St. Theresa tucked under the edge of the structure on a beam next to the middle post.

You can easily be seen from the beach and from the walkway so be careful and secretive when you find the box and do your stamping.

Note from Zess: My mom was one of the most generous, kind, warm, and loving people I’ve ever known. She was more than once referred to as “St. Theresa” by those who knew her, and planting it here in St. Augustine just spoke to that being the name of the box. She and my father vacationed in St. Augustine every year from 1988 until her death in 1996 (and he has since moved down here). Mom would sit on the porch overlooking the ocean, with her coffee & book in the morning, or wine & book in the evening, and feel completely at peace. She always said this was her favorite place in the world. It is only right that this carving of her (my first portrait carving) be planted “permanently” on this beach, within earshot and view of the ocean she loved.
