This letterbox is a tribute to "Aiti" Millie (Mrs. Leslie) Roberts, a longtime NMU Bookstore employee. Mille began her tenure in 1972 retiring in 2002. Yet in her 9th decade of life she continues to help during "book rush" twice each year.

Millie also serves as the "voice of choice" for both NMU's Finnish Students and as translator at Marquette General Hospital. She has volunteered countless hours in both capacities over the last 20+ years. She has been associated with Kiwanis and St. Marks's church, too.

Millie was born in Negaunee, and then moved to Marquette at age 4. She learned English while attending kindergarten at her alma mater, John D. Pierce School. She was unable to attend college due to World War II, but five of her descendants have graduated from NMU.

This great-grandmother (Aiti) dearly cherishes family times so we have chosen her 2nd great-grandson's 8th birthday on (June 9, 2010) to place this box.
