Beattie Park Turtle Mound
Beattie Park is located in downtown Rockford. North of Park Avenue and south of Mound Avenue. The mounds in Beattie Park probably date from the early part of the time period 700-1100, when most of the effigy mounds seem to have been built. The effigy mound building tradition dates to as early as 300. and spans the entire period until the mid-17th century.
There are three mounds in Beattie Park. One conical mound which lies outside of park boundaries, one linear mound and one effigy mound. The turtle mound is actually an effigy mound. These mounds were built by Native American mound builders.
The stamp is the turtle mound.
Take walking path to the south, past parking lot, along river. You will come to a bridge that has 2 yellow signs, one showing no skateboarding and one showing to walk your bike. Look directly down and at the bottom under bridge you will find a turtle.
This stamp was placed by Funrunner, Elmo ,and Fisher of Men
