Go west on Hwy.49 (from I44, past Medicine Park, or, Cache Rd. from Hwy.62), park at "Sunset Pool" TRAILHEAD parking area (not the picnic parking area). To view your destination, go 210-220 paces on the trail behind the "Trailhead" sign to the large rock. Sunset Peak is at EXACTLY 271 degrees (set your declination to 7 degrees E). It takes about 1-1/2 hours to get there! There is no trail. You must sit on the very peak. To verify that you're on the right peak: Small Pond is at 111 degrees; 2 small ponds are at 276 degrees; Twin Rocks are at 158 degrees; Apple & Pear are at 126 degrees. The Letterbox is under some flat rocks at the base of the the withered little tree next to you. Congratulations!

9/26/09 Wow! Verified that this box is still there, and in pretty good shape...

Verified again 2/28/17... needs help. Next time I visit it I'll put it in a new container. Seventeen years! Not bad...

Hike length: 2-3 miles
