According to Wikipedia, the Whooper Swan (Cygnus Cygnus) is a large swan found in the Northern Hemisphere and is analogous to the Trumpter Swan found in North America. It is a big bird, ranging from 81 to 110 inches in wingspan and 17 to 44 pounds in weight. They are in fact so big, that they need large bodies of water to sustain them as they cannot walk about for any extended amount of time. Despite their size, they are great fliers and can fly hundreds of miles to where they spend the winters.
Whooper Swans mate for life and will occasionally be joined by offspring from previous years. They prefer wetlands for their nests, but anywhere near water will do. The pair will build the nest together. While the female incubates the eggs, the male stands guard.
The Whooper Swan is the national bird of Finland. A rare sighting of this beautiful bird was recently reported in Nuuksio National Park. Let’s see if we can find it.
Take the trail of the raven from Haukkalamppa House. Pay attention to the trail as it twists and turns its way through dale and past woodland waters. When at last you reach a boardwalk crossroads and O-2 is nearby, take fifty steps southward and look right for a small trail. Take fifty more steps on this trail (should be to the west) which should find you at the end of the trail on top of a rock escarpment. Look to the south for a large boulder between pines. The Whooper Swan is under the boulder behind rocks on the northeast side.

Mukaan Wikipedia, Laulujoutsen (Cygnus cygnus) on suuri joutsen löytyy pohjoisella pallonpuoliskolla ja on analoginen Trumpter Swan löytyi Pohjois-Amerikassa. Se on iso lintu, aina 81-110 tuumaa ja siipien kärkiväli ja 17-44 kiloa painoa. Ne ovat itse asiassa niin suuri, että he tarvitsevat suuria vesistöjä niiden ylläpitämiseksi, koska ne eivät voi kävellä noin mistään pidentää aikaa. Huolimatta niiden koosta, ne ovat suuria lehtisiä ja voivat lentää satoja kilometrejä missä ne viettävät talven.
