Clues:
*pull straight into the lower parking lot of the Kelley library
*walk down to the thir tree ont the left ide of the library
*look up at the tree and the letter box should be up in the branches
In 1873 the state of New Hampshire books worth up to one hundred dollars to a town that could raise at least one fourth of the money they spent on books. Salem raised enough money so the Salem Public Library was started. When it first opened it was a free library. It opened on February 17, 1894.
A year after first opening the public library moved to No.1 school house near the old original Town Hall. Then in 1966 a brand new library was built and relocated to where it is today. It is located on Arthur Kelley’s property and he ordered it to be moved in the first place. When it reopened at its new location there were almost seven hundred more books then when it first opened.
In 1978 the children’s section and the reference department were added. At this time Edward Reed was the library director. This wasn’t the only addition. In 1996 online catalogues were added.
Allison Baker was hired as the new director of the Kelley Library in 2008 when the library went through yet another technological update to their system with, the addition of even more online library collections. Also an online integrated library system was put into use.
Kelley Library is one of the most historical and old buildings in this town. It is a great and very important part of our community. It is still used very often by everyone in the town, and helps improve our town. The Kelley library is not only a historical place its self it is also filled with history.
