The Drayton Plains Nature Center is located on the site of a former DNR fish hatchery established in 1904. A nice place to spend a couple hours wandering the trails & searching for wildlife. The visitor's center has some interesting displays.

Begin your search by standing in the center of the decagon-shaped structure. From here you should be able to spot your first river crossing point at about 285 degrees. Notice the map just before you cross; you're headed to Pine Flats. Cross the river and proceed straight- veering too far left or right would dampen your spirits considerably. Continue straightward until you cross the second branch of the river. Once across, follow the path along the river's edge to your right. At about 50-ish paces you'll come to a path forking off to the left; ignore it & continue along the river's edge. After passing a bench on your left, the path you're on will turn sharply away from the water. Stay on your path; just a few paces into the woods a path from the left merges into the one you're on. At this junction is a (currently sign-less) signpost. From this post you should be able to spot a large 3 trunked tree at 300 degrees not far away. The box lies behind this tree under a blanket of forest debris. Please be descreet when stamping in- the bench you just passed is a convenient spot. Please rehide well in same spot.

You may want to consider bringing bug repellent; this is nature, after all...also keep an eye open for poison ivy...
