Kennel Road
This box honors all the brave men and women of Fort Riley who did their jobs and came home safely from the many conflicts that they have served in. It was a special gift to us that our son, Mike, returned safely after serving a year in Iraq. I planted this box to share that gift.
From I-70 Exit 301 turn right onto Kennel Road, then immediately turn left into the parking lot. Climb the trail to the Atomic Cannon, reading the signs along the way about some of the equipment the army has used over the years. At the top, enjoy the view and then take a moment to thank all those who have served, especially those who never returned. Then walk to the barrel of the cannon and find the 'unauthorized' trail back down. Start down this trail until you have to go around the end of a rock wall and double back along this wall. Follow along this wall until the trail turns straight down the hill. Look for a bi-colored rock at the base of the wall and find the welcome home gift.
~~Thanks, Big Red One!~~
