Take I-81 South: Take the VA-259 exit- EXIT 257- toward US-11 / MAUZY / BROADWAY. Turn LEFT onto VA-259 / MAYLAND RD. Continue to follow VA-259. Turn left onto US 11 South. Stay on US 11 for a few miles to Lacey Spring. The school is on the right.
There are parking spaces up by the front of the school.
Kids Clues:

1. Walk up to the flagpole, Lacey Springs Elementary School was the first public school in Lacey Spring.

2. Run to the playground castle. During the first 6 years, Lacey Spring experienced rapid growth, growing from 370 to 410
students all which played in this playground.

3. Swing on the fourth swing across the slide.

4. Walk back over to the sidewalk.

5. Skip up the sidewalk past the third bench.

6. Walk through the sea of gravel up to the black top.

7. Hop to the white sign that says “Lacey Spring Elementary Arboretum.” In September, 1989, the new Lacey Spring Elementary opened its doors and became the third public school to serve the Lacey Spring community.

8. Walk along the fence up the small hill. These hills were once part of battle fields; many battles went through Lacey Spring’s fields.

9. At the tree turn right.

10. Walk to the three trees that are always green.

11. Stand at the one farthest from the fitness playground.

12. Roll straight across to the fence line of trees.

13. Straight across find the tree with ___ divisions

Adult Clues

1. Walk to the flagpole and turn right...During the term of 1921-1922 and 1922-1923 a junior high school was added to the Lacey Spring School.

2. Walk down the sidewalk around the building.
3. Turn left and walk to the green WM cube. (Approximately 40 steps.)
4. Walk up the cement path to the blacktop…In 1934 Forest Grove and in 1939 Melrose School was closed and all students transported to Lacey Spring.

5. Walk through the United States.
6. Walk up the steep hill to the army training (feel free to test your agility). In 1926. three Rockingham County battlefields of the Civil War were marked by handsome bronze tablets fixed on massive stone bases.

7. Stand in the middle of the three evergreen trees.
8. The middle tree should be at three o’clock…The second Lacey Spring School was built on a lot south of the village and opened in January 1919.

9. Walk towards 12 o’clock at the fencerow of trees.
10. Find the three-division tree.
