Driving Directions:

This box is located in the Blue Hills Reservation in Milton, MA. If you come from I 93 take the Milton exit (2B) and drive on 138 north and take a right on Hillside St., the parking area will be on your left hand side before you get to Blue Hill River Rd.. If you are coming from the east, Rte 28 area, pass the State Police Station and Reservations Headquarters, and the stop sign for Blue Hill River Rd. on your left and shortly after, on your right side is a small gravel parking area.

You can buy a map of The Blue Hills by the building next to the State Police Headquarters for $2, or you can copy and paste the following link and print it out:

I chose to plant this box because of the many hikes that I take throughout Blue Hills with my puppy. He is a chocolate lab about 18 months old. We have hiked throughout Blue Hills finding many letterboxes together and he has gotten to the point that if I point him in the general area of a letterbox, he sniffs it out for me and digs and grabs it for me before I can even find it!!

Clues:
For a more challenging and adventurous hike through the Blue Hills, I will give you the clues for the route that I took when planted it myself. From the parking area, take the path that is to the left (west) and follow until you reach a path on your right which is called Wild Cat Notch Path (there is a nice post sign that marks this trail, and is only about 100 yards from parking area). Follow this trail up a short ways until you reach marker #1086. At this marker take a left (this path is called Accord path and it runs along side the road). Pass marker 1081... pass marker 1062 and when you reach the Blue dotted trail, take a right, this will be a challenging hike going up a very rocky hill. When you reach the top of the hill, keep to the right following the blue dotted trail, passing the weather observatory to your left. When you reach marker #1066 take a right down the hill still following the blue dotted trail (this is a steep rocky decline) pass marker #1083 and keep hiking until you reach the intersection where marker #1123 is located. Stand in the exact center of the intersection facing the marker for #1123. Turn around (180 degrees, so your back is facing the marker) and walk 20 steps down and you will see a fallen down tree on your right about ten feet off of the path. "Puppy" is hidden in the hole of the base of this fallen tree, under some sticks and bark. Stamp in and please rehide well. This is a high traffic area.

For those who you who are not up to such a challenging hike, just make your way to marker #1123 and follow the directions from there.

Happy Hunting!
